This great typewriter draws our attention for its excellent condition, its elegant design and logo and a wonderful working order. It is a Kappel model 1, a German typewriter built in the first half of the 20th century (1930s). The typing machine has cast-iron body with side and rear opening, enameled in black and with golden decals. The enamel finish is in excellent condition, regular and shiny, and the golden inscriptions and lines are quite well preserved. This typewriters mechanism has been cleaned and fine-tuned to guarantee an optimal operation. The Kappel typewriters were manufactured by the Kappel Maschinenfabrick A.G., Chemnitz (Germany). The company was founded in 1872 under the name of Sächsische Strickmaschinenfabrik, changed in 1882 by the definite one. The first Kappel typewriter was model 1, designed by Otto Rössler and Bernhard Dost and launched in 1914. This machine was commercialized until 1944 and about 210 000 units were sold. In 1921 appeared model 2 and in 1934 the company also launched a portable typewriter. After World War II, Chemnitz was occupied by the Soviet Union and the factory was dismantled. The typewriter that we can see in the photos is a good example of Kappel models excellent design. The brand logo is printed over the carriage in golden cursive lettering, different from the one that characterizes model 1. At the front we can see the manufacturer companys name and the city where it was located. The keyboard is composed of round black keys with white letters and nickel-plated rings; it is complete and in good condition. The metal rolls with the ink tape also bear the engraved brand name in capital letters. This amazing typewriter is an antique and decorative piece, perfect to embellish a stylish study.
