This lovely antique typewriter is a real classic in the field of office pieces. It is a Stoewer Record typewriter, a Germany design that became quite popular in the first decades of the 20th century. Stoewer typewriters kept on being produced from 1903 until the early 1930s and hundreds of thousand units were manufactured. The piece that we can see in these images is Model 5, with the original metal case and key and in great condition and working order. The machine has been carefully fine-tuned and it can be used to type documents. Stoewer started in 1858, when Bernhard Stoewer founded a sewing machine factory called Nähmascinenfabrik Bernahard Stoewer AG. After some difficult times, the firm became bigger and started manufacturing cycles. In 1903 and after Paul Grützman entered the company, they launched the first Stoewer typewriter. Until 1933 (when the company eventually disappeared), eight different Stoewer versions were launched including two portable typewriters. The production of the portable models was taken over by Rheinmetall. At the top of the typewriter, over the carriage we can see the brand name in golden lettering and a series of inscriptions related to the manufacturer. Under the type levers, at the front of the machine we can see the name STOEWER RECORD flanked by two groups of four golden medals. These decals are in great condition, and so is the keyboard composed of white pieces with black symbols. At the back of the typewriter there is a small metal plate with the serial number 77110 engraved in it. This wonderful typewriter cannot be missing in a good collection as a witness of the production of a renowned brand.
