Fantastic Continental Typewriter Very Well Preserved. Germany, 1930's

This beautiful antique typewriter is a piece full of history and charm, with a classic design and in good working order. It is a Continental machine, a German model that became very popular in Europe during the first half of the 20th century. The typewriter is in excellent condition: the black enamel that covers the iron body looks shiny, even and flat. The keys are also well preserved and so are the rest of the component parts, all of them original. The typewriter works fine and can be used to type documents; the ink roll is slightly dry but it can be easily substituted.Continental typewriters were manufactured by the Wanderer-Werke AG of Chemnitz, Germany; they are a real classic in their field. Their solid design and excellent operation turned them into very popular machines, specially the Continental Standard models. The factory launched their first typewriter in 1904: it was a four-bank single shift visible model (a frontstrike machine). Prior to the II World War they launched the famous Continental Silenta and some portable models. Hostilities curtailed production, and after the war some models and component parts started being manufactured by factories located in East Germany.This typewriter bears the brand name CONTINENTAL printed in golden lettering over the carriage and also at the front, just over the keyboard. Here we can also see the manufacturing companys logo, name and location. The keyboard is composed of black keys with white symbols, reinforced by the classic nickel-plated rings: they are all in excellent condition. To the left we can see a small metal plate screwed to the iron body that bears the original German distributors name and address. At the back of the typewriter lay all the models patents printed in golden lettering, though they are somewhat worn and illegible.Its classic and sturdy design, together with its fantastic condition, turns this typewriter into an essential piece for every collection.
