This curious and ancient typewriter is a very special model because of its rareness and originality. It is a Rheinmetall portable typewriter, made in Germany in the 1930s and in perfect working order. The most remarkable feature of this typewriter is surely its curious finish that sets it apart from similar models: its iron body is lacquered in a faux-wood finish. This reddish finish, with black strokes that imitates natural wood quite realistically, is well accomplished and turns the typewriter into a very interesting piece for every collector. At the front of the typewriter and over the carriage we can see the brand logo, Rheinmetall, printed in bone-white and golden color respectively. Rheinmetall was a German company that produced arms, locomotives and agricultural machines as well as calculators and typewriters. After the Great Depression, the company took over the production of the portable Stoewer typewriters and starting producing them under their own brand name; this is the case of the one we can see in the images. Though most models are black, others are given a faux-wood finish just like the one we are talking about. The keyboard is composed of round bone-white colored bakelite pieces with black symbols and letters. Just over the keyboard, to the right we can see an inscription with the manufacturers name and location: RHEINMETALL-BORSIG AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT-SÖMMERDA. Just like the rest of the typewriters decals, this is in very good condition and is clearly legible. Thanks to its originality and its excellent working order, this lovely typewriter deserves an honor place in a great collection or on the desk of an antique lover.
