Awesome antique Continental Standard typewriter made in Germany in the 1930s. This lovely piece is in very good condition and works fine. It has been fine-tuned and oiled in order to guarantee a great operation; it can be perfectly used to type documents with the best results. The machine preserves all its original component parts and boasts a solid and classic design, typical of the models produced in the first half of the 20th century. At the front and over the carriage we can see the brand name CONTINENTAL printed in neat lettering. The front decal also shows the manufacturers name in golden lettering, though it has been partially erased by the trace of time. The Standard model was constantly improved and developed: many versions were launched. It is probably one of the most famous typewriters ever. The factory produced its first model in 1904, a frontstrike visible machine. During World War II the production came to an end, and after the content some models kept on being manufactured in East Germany. This particular typewriter boast the classic Continental Standard design from the 1920s and 1930s. Its cast-iron body has side and rear openings that make the piece lighter and let us see the inner mechanism. The keyboard is composed of circular pieces with black background and white symbols; they are reinforced with nickel-plated rings. All the keys are well preserved and fully operative. Over the keyboard and to the left we can see a small metal plate with the name of the shop where the typewriter was originally purchased. The business was located in Kassel, Germany. A real classic among collectors typewriters, this Continental Standard shines for its elegant and solid design.
