The beautiful typewriter that we can see in these photographs is a Mercedes 3 that was made in Germany for tha Spanish market in the 1920s. The keyboard have the Spanish letter Ñ. It is an antique piece with around 90 years behind, that has survived to our days in quite good condition. The mechanism has been fully cleaned and fine-tuned so it can be used to type documents without any problem. As well as a functional piece, this is a decorative item that will fill any corner or study with its charm. The typewriter preserves its original decals, clearly legible and in good condition. At the top of the machine, over the carriage we can see the brand name MERCEDES printed in big golden lettering. At the front and over the keyboard there are two identical golden medallions (one at each side) with the black inscription MODEL 3 printed inside. The Mercedes brand name was launched by Mercedes Bureau-Maschinen GmbH, a German typewriter manufacturer founded in 1906 by Gustav Mez. The factory produced different models and versions of their Mercedes typewriter and kept on in business until the 1990s. Some of their electric and electronic designs can be considered true precursors of current computers. This particular typewriter has a black-enameled cast-iron body with side and rear openings that make it possible to see part of the inner mechanism. It has a QWERTY keyboard composed of circular pieces with white background and black symbols. The keys are in good condition though some of them look slightly brownish due to the trace of time. They all show nickel-plated rings that reinforce and embellish them. The space bar is made of black-lacquered wood: the black finish is worn in the center of the piece, but this feature only enhances the typewriters wonderful look. Because of its attractive design and ancient age, this Mercedes 3 typewriter is a highly interesting piece for any collector.
