This amazing antique typewriter is a Smith Premier made in New York, USA in the early 20th century (1906). The typewriter preserves all its beauty and evocative power, being a singularly decorative piece in optimal working order. It can be perfectly used to type documents; as well as an attractive item it is also a functional piece. The machine has a black-enameled iron body with the models name printed in golden lettering over the carriage and at the front, under the keyboard. The upstrike Smith Premier typewriter is a real classic in the history of office antiques from the early 20th century. It was the first typewriter made by the L. C. Smith & Brothers gun factory, a business located in Syracuse, N. Y. It was developed by Alexander Brown; legend has it that Brown saw the Sholes & Glidden typewriter in an exhibition in Philadelphia in 1876 and bowed he would build a better one. His employer provided him with space and support so Brown started to add improvements to the S&G model. The typewriter was launched in 1889 under the Smith Premier name, and in fact it was much more evolved than many of its contemporaries. The typewriter, a solid and compact model, shows rear and side openings through which we can see the inner mechanism. The keyboard is composed of octagonal bakelite red, black and white pieces. The space bar is made of black-painted wood and so are the keys that flank it. The typewriters name is printed in classic golden lettering in different parts; all the decals are well preserved and remain perfectly legible. Quite original and undeniable beautiful, this antique typewriter will shine in an elegant study or a room with special decoration.
