Original German Typewriter of the Adler Brand, Model No. 7, manufactured in 1898. It is a very original and beautifully made machine. The shiny black metal casing is in perfect condition, although the keys have the typical wear of being an antique piece, which does not detract from its beauty. The machine has been revised and is in perfect working order. It stands out for its length and the particularity of having covered the part where the mechanism is located, which in most of the machines is uncovered. The brand name is painted on the upper cover with a beautiful graphic design decorated with an eagle and stylized vegetal forms on the sides. These devices arose from the need to help people suffering from blindness to read and write, and it was not until 1873 when the first typewriters capable of revolutionizing the world of work appeared. At the beginning, the typewriter had a decoration similar to that of sewing machines, and the carriage was retracted by operating a pedal similar to that of the latter. From the end of the 19th century and during most of the 20th century, typewriters were indispensable tools in commercial offices, as well as for almost all professional writers. In the first models of typewriters, two important defects remained to be solved: writing was done only with capital letters, and the writing remained hidden from the typist. Although the first "visible typewriters" were marketed around 1895, surprisingly, some antique models like this one continued to be manufactured until 1915. In 1898 the German company Adlerwerke started production under license and a year later introduced the Adler 7, which became a success and within ten years sold 50,000 copies. Adler typewriters became one of the most popular European typewriters. One of the most recognizable typewriters that every good collection should have.
