Rare Courier Side Stroke Courier Typewriter manufactured in Austria 1903. It has a very original mechanism based on side striking, very different from the mechanism we find in regular typewriters. The machinery sits on a black lacquered quadrangular structure that serves as a base. On the sides of the machine we find decorative panels with the machine's spelling: COURIER. The white keys are located on the front and, by lateral tapping, writing is achieved. On the front end a plate indicates the serial number: 19253. On the upper part of the carriage is lacquered in a decorative yellow color the brand name of the machine: The Courier Typerwriter. Technically the machine also works well and is in a good state of preservation, which makes it a magnificent and original collector's item. This type of typewriter was created by the Oliver house at the end of the 19th century. More than one million of this innovative Oliver model were produced in the USA during 1894-1926, and later in England with remarkable sales success. Around 1903, the Austrian company Courier began production of this type of machine under a license from Oliver. After the obvious rights that the Oliver house had in Austria, this Courier will be the first typewriter produced industrially in Austria. Only 10,000 copies of this model were made. The lines of this typewriter are based on the inverted U shape at the front with the towers of letters stacked on the sides of the typewriter. This design limits the keyboard to three rows and undoubtedly makes it very special and very beautiful aesthetically for its incredible originality. Rare and original typewriter perfect to complete a great collection! Measures: 42 x 36 x 27 cm.
