Great and elegant vintage typewriter made by prestigious Underwood brand in 1923. It is an Underwood 5, a model characterized by its great design and functionality. The first Underwood typewriter was designed by Franz Wagner in Germany, and production was taken upon by John Underwood, son of a typewriter ribbon manufacturer. The first model appeared in 1895, but it was in 1901 when the Underwood 5 came out. This was the most successful typewriter of the beginning of the 20th century, and it was produced and commercialized during three decades. This beautiful machine is made of black-lacquered iron, and it has a German keyboard. All its components work perfectly, with a wonderful softness which lets the user write with the machine just like the first day. It comes with an extra antique ribbon, Pelikan brand. Just over the carriage we can see the brands name in big golden lettering, accompanied by a shield with the logo and the country of manufacturing, USA. The name Underwood appears again under the key levers, somewhat worn due to the trace of time. Under the name there is a metal plate attached with rivets which bears the name, city and telephone of the original distributor: Z.G. ZIMMERMAN STUTTGART. At the rear and on the sides there are some gaps through which we can see the inside mechanism of the machine. This is commonplace for the typewriters of that era. At the rear there is a huge inscription in golden lettering, which shows the various patents of the model. The machine is in good condition and only the rubber legs are missing, but they can be easily replaced. In short, this Underwood typewriter is a real icon of the 29th century industrial design, a piece full of life and history which will stand out in the most elegant study.
