Extremely rare typewriter, made in the USA in 1906 for the British market. It is a Blick 7 typewriter, this model being known as London Blick. This is a very special piece, as very few units of this kind were made. The first portable Blick typewriter was invented in 1891 by George C. Blickensderfer. It featured the ability to change type styles. From then on, a company was founded which lasted almost thirty years. Model 7 was introduced in 1897 and is the deluxe version of the basic design (Model 5). In 1906, the company started to produce a gold-plated version of Model 7 and an aluminum version too, but very few units were made of both and nowadays are considered collectors pieces. This typewriter is a museum piece because its ancient age and rarity. It is in good condition and working order. Blick machines do not carry a ribbon, but a wheel with letters in relief that is stained by an ink pad and then prints the letters on the paper. In this concrete typewriter the system is in perfect working order, though the ink pad is currently dry because of the trace of time. Nevertheless, the typewriter keeps all its original component and works smoothly. The aluminum surface is in good condition and so are the bone-colored baquelite parts. This is a portable typewriter, as stated before. The machine is attached to an oak wooden board whit a delicately molded border. It is covered by a piece of the same wood which adapts to the shape of the typewriter. The cover can be connected to the base to make up an only piece which can be easily carried. The wood is in good condition and preserves the original varnish, and so are the closure system and the handle. All this features turn this rare vintage typewriter into a great piece which will delight the most experienced expert.
