Beautiful Continental Standard typewriter, made in Germany in 1910. This is the most popular and renowned model of the company. The typewriter is in very good condition and works perfectly. Continental brand was founded in 1894 to sell milling machines and motorcycles. In 1904 they launched their first typewriter. The Continental Standard is the most famous model of the firm and shows a frontstrike printing system. The typewriters front can be opened to clean easily the inside mechanisms. The company developed two more models: Silenta and Klein-Continental, smaller in size. The typewriter has a German keyboard with the classical round black keys with ochre letters, numbers and symbols. The keys are framed by a silvery metal ring. This model is made of black-lacquered iron and decorated with the companys name in golden lettering, just over the carriage. Under the word Continental there is another smaller inscription: S. Gutmann Nürmberg. The beautiful label attached over the keyboard is especially attention-drawing, with its fine image of the companys factory. The picture is accompanied by the inscription WANDERER WERKE A.G. CHEMNITZ. All the parts and components are original and work perfectly. The black lacquer which covers the iron is also in very good condition, and so are the inscriptions and the labels. At the rear of the typewriter there is a metal plate with the serial number: 45139. There is also a golden inscription: WANDERER WERKE CHEMNITZ (SACHSEN), a long text with the different patents in a somewhat washed-out lettering and a yellow label with the name and address of the original distributor, Fritz Röder. This is undoubtedly a great vintage typewriter, wonderfully preserved and fit to be part of the best collection of industrial antiques from the beginning of the 20th century.
