Antique The Globe index typewriter with original protecting chest, made in the USA by the Amrican Typewriter Co. circa 1893. This item is entirely original from the late 19th century and comes with its protecting wooden chest. This is quite a rare feature, as these chests are usually missing because of the trace of time. The types of these pieces were made of rubber, so with the passage of time they dried and broke. This is common in these typewriters. The machine works well, although it doesn't keep all the original types so it can't be used to type documents. It is a collector's item. The item shows off an excellent condition. It is attached to a solid-mahogany wooden base with a lovely veneer and finely preserved too. It mounts a black-enameled metal body; the metal is in great condition and looks uniform and shiny. The top decal with the letters is greatly preserved and so is the gorgeous original logo with the models name, The Globe Typewriter, in golden lettering on aqua-green background. This logo is complete and only shows some missing parts, preserving all its evocative and decorative power. At the top of the typewriter, the metal carriage with the rolls for the paper shows a fine engraved decoration which includes the typewriters name. The carriage rolls have also dried and squared with the trace of time; nevertheless, the typewriter keeps its beauty and ancient charm. One of the pieces most attractive features is surely its solid-mahogany wooden chest, original from the time and with a carved shield at the top. The chest preserves the metal handle and lock, both in great condition and with a fine engraved decoration. Every collector of old-time office items will appreciate this antique The Globe index typewriter, beautiful and complete. Dimensions: Width: 13.2 in / 33 cm. Height: 7 in / 17.5 cm.
