Nice Continental Standard Typewriter, Ca. 1.915. Working Like the First Day

Lovely vintage Continental Standard typewriter, made around 1915. This is a Standard model, the first launched by the company and which reached great popularity. Continental company started selling motorcycles and industrial milling machines in 1984; their first typewriter was launched in 1904. The most popular model was very similar to this one and was also called Continental Standard typewriter. Its frontstrike keyboard (front--printing writing system) turned it into a great innovation in the field of typewriters. Also, the front of the machine could be opened in order to clean the gears easily. This article is a good example of the German companys fine engineering work. The typewriters body is made of shiny black-lacquered iron, in very good condition and looking great. Just over the keyboard we can see a label with the name and location of the company: CONTINENTAL WANDERER WERKE A.G. CHEMNITZ. This inscription frames an antique etching which reproduces the factory, and which appears in all the models of those days. On the right we can also see the serial number engraved in the metal: 237642. The typewriter keeps all its original parts and gears, and also the ink tape; it can be used like new. The keyboard is also in very good condition. It is composed of round keys, with black background and white letters, surrounded by the classical metal ring which reinforces and protects them. Just over the carriage there is a big inscription in golden lettering with the name of the company and what seems to be the name and address Continental typewriters original distributor in Düsseldorf, Germany. This striking vintage typewriter is undoubtedly a beautiful and charming item, perfect to be used as a decorative and functional piece and which will catch the attention in any room or collection.
