Wonderful vintage typewriter manufactured by prestigious Underwood brand, with cast-iron body and keeping all its original components. This article dates from the 1920s and was made for the Spanish market. It is in remarkably good condition except for the logical signs of wear due to the trace of time and use; these details, though, only serve to add even more charm and personality to the piece. The machine is lacquered in shiny black enamel and the golden threads that decorate its front and side are in quite good condition. The Underwood Nº 5 was one of the most popular typewriters of all times, and from 1901 (when the first model was made) to the 1930s, when it stopped being produced, around four millions of units were manufactured and commercialized. The round label with the logo of the brand, located over the keyboard and on the left, is partially removed. Differently, the brand name Underwood is in very good condition; we can see it printed in elegant golden lettering just to the right of the round label (over the keyboard) and also over the carriage. The keyboard is made up of round pieces with black background and white letters. Curiously enough, it is a Spanish keyboard as it contains the Ñ letter and the word MAYÚSCULAS in the shift keys, located on both sides of the bottom row. The keys show the classical silvery metal ring which adorns and reinforces them, and are in good condition except for some slight signs of wear. Underwood typewriters with Spanish keyboard are rare pieces, most sought-after by collectors. The typewriter keeps all its pieces and components and works like new. As well as functional, is also a great decorative piece full of aesthetical interest. At the rear we can see a long text printed in golden lettering which details the dates when the patents of this model were filed and also the name of the manufacturing company: Manufactured by Underwood Typewriter Co. Inc. USA. The text is perfectly legible and is another sign of this lovely typewriters originality and quality. It is surely a real relic of modern history and a charming piece, which will stand out in the most stylish study or room.
