This lovely typewriter, whose design is far off from the classical models we are used to, is a Mignon 4 made in Berlin (Germany) in 1925. The piece is in excellent condition and works perfectly, just like new. It comes in its original molded wood case consisting of a solid oak wooden plank (the base) and a cover made of veneered wood. All the pieces and parts are in great condition and the case keeps even the original key designed to lock and unlock it. Mignon typewriters were manufactured by the Allgemeinen Elektrizitaets-Gesellschaft (AEG), located in Berlin (Germany). The Mignon 4 appeared in 1923 and remained in production until 1934. It was the most successful of all the series launched under the same market name. The only difference between Mignon 4 and 3 was that the first one had a backspace key located to the right of the mechanism. This article was also exported to other countries such as France, USA, United Kingdom and many others. It was so popular that there also appeared colored versions and a folding model. The typewriter we can see in these photographs is very well preserved and can be used to type comfortably. To operate it the user must select the symbol with the metal pointer and push the first metal button to the left of the printed plank. The following button is the spacebar and the third one is the backspace key, as stated before. There is a small metal plate screwed to the typewriter with the serial number 286189. We can see the name MIGNON printed over the carriage and also on the wooden case. This fine and original Mignon 4 typewriter is bound to show off its elegant presence as a part of a great collection, or as a decorative piece in the classiest room.
