It is in good condition and its movement has been fully fine-tuned so the clock works like new. It chimes de hours and the halves. The clock has a lyre-shaped pendulum bob and enameled face, and is a very decorative and stylish item. The box is fully fine-crafted and shows a rural scene, with three peasants performing agricultural tasks: two of them, located in the foreground, are plowing the ground with the help of two horses, while a third one at their backs is working with the vines. The engraved motive is in good condition and the bronze keeps its original lacquered finish.Morez clocks, also known as Comtoise, are so called for being traditionally manufactured in the French Franche-Comté region. The two cities where the production was massive were Morez and Morbier; these two place names are commonly used to design this kind of clocks, being Morez the most common one. The history of their making is quite curious: the clockmarker peasants bought the pieces and composed the clocks at their homes, and every Saturday they came down to the valley with some models to sell. These clocks were carried to Spain and Italiy, as well as France. Until 1850, when the railway reached the region, the pendulums were foldable in order to comfortably carry them. After decades of decadence, in 1973 the manufacture of partially artisanal clocks started again. This beautiful wall clocks face is made of white-enameled metal sheet, with black Roman numbers. It is decorated by hand with a delicate crown of flowers and has the inscription Philibert á Cluny smartly printed in black lettering. The lyre-shaped pendulum bob is also nicely decorated: it has a porcelain white and blue medal with a charming rural landscape printed in full color. This piece is well preserved and the protecting lacquer is the original one, being only slightly worn in some parts. The clock also keeps the original crank with wooden handle, designed to wind it up.The elegance, subtleness and good working order of this Morez clock turn it into a very decorative item, classy and stylish.Measurements: Width: 275 mm/10.8 in.
