Beautifully Restored and Working Kienzle Wall Clock. Germany, 1900

Elegant solid wood wall clock with a fine balanced classic design and a nice combination of woods. This piece dates from 1900 and was produced by the watchmaker company Kienzle, one of the most important manufacturers in the 20th century. The clock has a solid oak wooden box decorated with turned and carved beech pieces with a golden walnut finish that matches the oaks color. The box has two different parts: the top one, bigger in size and containing the movement and the enameled brass face, and the lower one, whose glass panel lets us see the fine golden pendulum bob. The clock has been fully restored and fine-tuned and chimes the hours and the halves. We know this clock was manufactured by Kienzle because its movement bears the brands emblem, a winged wheel, engraved in the metal. The company was founded in Schwenningen in 1822 by Johannes Schlenker and in a short time it was producing more than 20.000 units a year. In 1827 Jacob Kienzle married into the Schlenker family and then the companys name was changed to Schlenker & Kienzle. In 1897 Jacob Kienzle became the sole owner and changed the market name to the definite Kienzle. The company grew considerably during the 20th century and though in 1997 it was taken over by the Highway Holdings Group, in 2002 returned to Germany and recovered its original name: Kienzle AG. The firm is actually a successful and wordly-renowned watchmaker brand. This gorgeous clocks face is white with detailed black Arab numbers. The faces center and the pendulum bob are made or golden brass, decorated with a flower engraved in the metal. As stated before, the clocks box is decorated with carved and turned elements that reproduce classic designs. The wood boasts a great French-polish finish that provides it with a warm bright glow. The movement bears the inscription DR PATENT and the serial number engraved in the metal, just below the brand logo.
