German Wall Clock, ca. 1890

This beautiful wall clock is a Germany design made in the late 19th century. It is in very good condition and works perfectly, having been cleansed and fine-tuned to guarantee it. The clock has a wonderful wooden box with solid turned and carved parts, and planks covered by mahogany veneers. It chimes the hours and the halves and boasts a balanced and elegant design, with a great French polish finish that provides it with a deep shiny glow. The front door has a glass pane that let us see the clocks face and pendulum, both made of golden brass with white-enameled parts. The movement bears an engraved logo depicting an eagle sitting on a wheel. Inside the wheel there are three initials: FMS, standing for Friedrich Mauthe Schwenningen. This name corresponds to a German watchmaker company located in Schwenningen, in the Black Forest. The firm was founded by F. mauthe in 1844 mainly to produce wall clocks. In 1900, FMS employed more than 1100 workers and manufactured all kinds of clocks, from wall models to alarm clocks. In 1975 the firm went bankrupt and the business ended after more than one hundred years of history. As well as the manufacturers logo, the movement also bears two engraved serial numbers: 55006 and 57442. The initials D.R.P indicate that the clock was made in Germany and the inscription 42/105 refers to the movements precision. As for the box, it is made of different kinds of woods: the carved and turned pieces are made of beech, finished with a lovely reddish walnut dye, and the door planks are covered with mahogany veneers that make up a beautiful design as they are laid in different positions. The crowning piece is made of colored pinewood with carved details of beech wood, among which a semi-rosette with an oak leaf inside stands out. The ancient age and nice design of this striking wall clock makes it worthy of a stylish home where it will undoubtedly shine. Measurements: Width: 13.7 in/35 cm. Height: 36.6 in/93 cm.
