This gorgeous wall clock is a German design from the early 10th century, made by the famous watchmaker Gustav Becker. The clocks box is completely made of solid wood, with some parts covered in walnut and some carved and milled beech wooden pieces. The whole box is in excellent condition and has been fully restored: the surface boasts an amazing French polish that enhances the color and the great look of this clock. The movement has also been fine tuned so the clock works perfectly, chiming the hours and the halves. In the clocks face, enameled in white and with black Roman numbers, we can see the initials GB and the trademarks logo. This company was founded by the German watchmaker Gustav Eduard Becker (1819-1855) who in 1850 opened several factories in the country. In 1930, the firm merged with the famous watchmaker Junghans. When World War II ended the company closed down, unable to compete with the emerging watchmakers located in the German Black Forest. This wonderful clock is a great example of the quality of Gustav Becker designs. The planks that make up the box and the frame of the glass door are covered by walnut wood, with the veneer disposed in different directions so they create a lovely combination. The turned columns that flank the glass pane are dyed in a gorgeous color, slightly darker than the walnut wood, and the wonderful carved figures that crown the clock are colored in the same tone. As for the movement, it is signed with the monogram of the brand and has the serial number 1232412 engraved in the metal. This magnificent wall clocks beauty and ancient age, together with is excellent working order, turn it into an exceptional item worthy of the most aristocratic room.
