Fantastic Aiglon Wall Clock in perfect working order. France, Circa 1890

Spectacular French solid wood wall clock with many hand-carved pieces and adorns. This model is quite antique and its movement is signed with the mark and the name AIGLON. The gorgeous wooden box has been completely restored and its beauty, its baroque style and its warm glow draw powerfully our attention. On the other hand, the movement has also been cleaned and checked so it works perfectly, chiming the hour and the halves.The signature we can see in the movement depicts a five-tooth gear with the inscription AIGLON MARQUE DE FABRIQUE. The brand Aiglon was registered in 1900-1901 by the firm Picard & Cie, Fabrique Germinal SA. There is not much information about this clockmaker company and it is believed that it was founded in 1848 under the name of Meyer Fréres. What we do know is that their clocks are high-quality and strikingly designed pieces, as we can see in the model of the photographs. The clocks box boasts an unmistakably neoclassic style, typical of the time when the clock was made (late 19th century); this style is still as elegant and aristocratic as it was then. The box, made of solid walnut wood and with some pieces decorated with combined walnut veneers that make up a diamond, is adorned with an impressive hand-engraved architecture-style crowning piece. It is shaped as a small temple with gabled roof that shelters a classic hand-carved mask. There is a square grooved column at each side of the temple with wooden balls crowning them, and just over it we can see a piece carved in the shape of a scallop and two volutes. The carved and turned pieces are made of solid beech wood that has been dyed so it matches the color of the walnut. The clocks face and pendulum bob are made of hand-engraved brass; the face is enameled in white and bears black Roman numbers. Very antique and undeniably decorative, this stately wall clock is an exclusive piece because of the beauty of its design and excellent working order. Measurements: Width: 15.7 in/40 cm.
