German Wall Clock, 1890

This fine wall clock, full of elegance and harmony, is a German piece with wooden box made by FMS in 1890. Both the box and the movement have been fully and profesionally restored, revised and updated, so the clock is as beautiful and functional as the day it was finished. The restoration has recovered the warm glow of the original French polish that protected the wood, and the movement has been adjusted so the clock works fine and chimes the hours and the halves. The box is complete and keeps all its original turned pieces and details, boasting the woods deep reddish tone enhanced by the insuperable shine of the traditional polish.The clock is signed in the movement with the capital letters FMS inside a symbol composed of a bird sitting on a wheel. The letters are the monogram of German manufacturer Friedrich Mauthe of Schwenningen, born in 1822 and who started his career as a general supplier for clockmakers tools and equipment. As the need for clocks grew, in 1876 Mauthe decided to become a manufacturer together with his sons Christian and Jacob. In 1923 the company was consolidated and 60% of German clocks exported to London were signed by Mauthe. In the 1970s decay commenced and the company closed its doors in 1976.FMS clocks are a reference in design and prestige. This particular piece has an especially beautiful box composed of different pieces of mahogany and dyed beech. The flat pieces are made of mahogany and are disposed in different ways so the veneer combination makes up a nice design. The lathed and carved pieces are made of beech, conveniently dyed to match the noble woods red color. The face is white and flawless and stands out greatly on the dark background, just like the shiny pendulum bob. As stated before, in the movement we can see the engraved logo and initials of the manufacturer together with the serial number 55006.Highly decorative and antique, this striking wall clock will be the star of any room or study because of its imposing presence.Measurements: Width: 370 mm.
